Under Construction

I forgot to post these pictures of our future master bedroom/bathroom and laundry room. This is the section of the house that used to be the guest bedroom, office, and laundry room. Like the baby room, everything had to be stripped bear. Unlike the baby room, this room didn't even have a frame! Directly behind the panneling was cinderblock. No wood, no insulation, nothing! After investigating the black marks that were all over the cinderblock, Kacey figured out that there had been a fire in that part of the house at one time. We checked with the neighbors and sure enough, there had been a cooking oil fire. This house has a crazy history...

Anyways, Kacey has been hard at work and hopefully tomorrow he will be building the support walls. The support beam running along the ceiling was previously supported by two 1/2 inch boards....not good. The huge beam was sagging pretty badly so Kacey had to jack up the ceiling after jacking up the floor from underneath the house. You can kind of see the sag in the beam at the bottom of this picture:
So, half of our house looks like a construction zone right now, but it is so exciting to see the progress. I'm just glad Kacey is the one working on the house....it is a bit overwhelming for me! He is so patient and thinks everything through very carefully. If I was in charge of the construction we might be finished by now, but I'm sure there would be sagging beams all over the place.

And of course I couldn't post a blog without putting some pictures of Sakora!
Our chunky monkey snacks on her felt banana.

Turban Time!

Pretty in Pink...

Sakora is so close to rolling over! She is always rolling onto her side from her back now, but never quite makes it the full roll. The other day, she was on her activity mat and when I came back into the room, she looked like this!
I wish those poles wouldn't have been there...she may have gone the whole way!
To move around in her crib, she throws her legs around. Sometimes we wake up at night to her thumping :)

Overdue Post

If Sakora had a facebook profile, it might read something like this...

Name: Sakora Lynn Carr
Relationship Status: Single (and will be for a very long time!)
Favorite Music: Alterbridge (especially #14 on their new album); Mommy's good-morning kisses songs; and Christmas tunes
Favorite Books: Disney Princess: Belle's Shapes; Tummy-Girl; Baby Bear, Baby Bear; and The Very Busy Bugs Pop-Up Book
Hobbies: Chewing on my hands and sticking my tongue out; Kicking my legs up and rolling onto my side; Hanging out under my mobile and talking with the hanging stuffed animals while I'm supposed to be sleeping; Playing under my activity gym; Reading books with colorful pictures; and standing up (with a little help from Mom and Dad)

Her profile picture would probably be one with her classic wide-eyed, deer-in-the-headlight look....

...or one with her beautiful, heart-melting smile!

Either way, we are glad that she is still too little for facebook accounts, texting, and twitter! Maybe when she is finally old enough for all of that, she will be better at keeping up with it than her parents! I have been slacking with the blog, so here are a bunch of pictures to catch up.

Sakora is getting very close to being able to sit up on her own. She can last a few seconds with no help, but then she starts crumpling, especially when she's looking for those scrumptious hands to snack on.

She also loves her bath time and we have started giving her bathes in the sink instead of the tub, which saves my back and enables her to just chill out on her comfy bath cushion (thanks Tasha! that cushion has been a huge help!) She likes the warm water and also seems to enjoy sucking the water off her hands. Although after her current growth spurt, I don't know how much longer she will fit in the sink! This past week, when Kevin and Marla were visiting, she was quite fussy and would never go down for her naps without terrible bouts of crying. After a few days of very unusual fussiness we went to the doctor for her 3 month appointment (she now weighs 14lbs 1 oz. and is 23.5 inches long!), and the doctor said she may be having a growth spurt soon. After hearing that, it clicked that she may not have been fussing just because she wanted to be held and rocked to sleep...it was probably because she was hungry! And sure enough, that did the trick! So, for the past few days she has been eating every 1.5-2 hrs. It is pretty tiring, but thankfully she is still sleeping straight through the night from about 9pm-7am. Who would have thought that nursing could be so tiring! All I do is sit there! But boy it can really zap the energy out of me.... I haven't found a pool of drool on her cheek like when I wasn't getting much sleep at night, but i have had found myself drifting off occasionally!

She is even big enough to ride around on my hip now!
Our neighbors brought over an old baby walker they had and we let Sakora give it a whirl. Her feet don't quite touch the ground yet, but she seems to enjoy it for a little while!

Visitors galore! One of Kacey's best friend from college and his girlfriend came to visit a couple weeks ago and we had fun playing games and showing off Sakora.

We also had Kevin and Marla come visit, which was wonderful! Thanks to Kevin, I am now able to use our washing machine! Yay! Farewell Laundry Mat!

Well, our poor puppies have sadly been somewhat neglected since we brought Sakora home from the hospital, but I think they understand because they have had excellent behavior. They are about to finish their 3rd week of heart worm treatment which will put them almost half way through the rounds of medication (both Bear and Mighty tested postive several months ago....such is the destiny of a Delta dog!). Unfortunately, while the medicine is in their systems, they cannot run or play or do anything that would make their breathing heavy :(. So, for a total of 8 weeks, we have to have them quarentined in a small corner of the kitchen. I knew Bear would be thrilled. He loves staying inside and sleeping on his pillow all day. Mighty, on the other hand, has different ideas about how to spend his time. He would much rather be outside hunting squirrels and usually goes stir-crazy after only a few hours indoors. I thought for sure I would be listening to his desperate cries all day. But, praise the Lord!, he has been just fine and sleeps peacefully most of the day and all night! I think God knew I would feel soooo bad for him while simultaneously getting sooooo annoyed at his whinning that He divinely injected some sedative into Mighty's bloodstream.
In his boredom, Mighty has taken great interest in the ordinary...Here he is having lots of fun chewing on a massive icicle that Kacey broke off the side of our house. Not as good as a squirrel, but he'll take what he can get.

Mighty and Bear are such good buds and are always cuddling up on their big pillow. Poor Spanky is always the loner, but I get the feeling he prefers it that way.

And back to Sakora! I had to post a picture of her sleeping. This is how we find her everytime she's a sleep...hands raised above her head in complete surrender. Marla says she's "praising Jesus" :) More recently, she has started moving around in her crib. No matter where we set her, she ends up facing the opposite direction and is usually squashed in the corner. The very first time she started throwing her legs up, I heard her making some commotion and went in to investigate only to find she had managed to get her leg on top of the bumper and had her foot stuck between the spindles on the crib. Oh my! So, we had to move the bumper up and all has been well since then.

After her restful nights, she generally likes to get in a good workout. I told her she was still pretty young, but she insisted on starting her Pilates regiment. Every morning she does a set of crunches and really works it! Even gets the tongue going:)!

One of her favorite spots, aside from her changing table, is this activity gym. The singing frog and little mirror really make her smile and get lots of happy squeals out of her.
Such a big girl!! She looks so grown-up!

For all of those Razorback fans, Sakora wanted to sport her Arkansas cheerleading outfit! Of course, we couldn't take her out of the house or these loyal, crazy Tennessee fans might have had our head. But she looked adorable nonetheless.

Precious little feet!
